95% fine grain size violet tungsten oxide may be reduced in hydrogen atmosphere to obtain tungsten powder (W powder). And W powder is carbonized to obtain submicron tungsten carbide powder (WC powder).VTO SEM picture
There are some methods for studying the morphology of VTO, W powder and WC powder:
1. Directly observe the morphology of these types of powder in scanning electron microscope (SEM) to know the overall condition.
2. These kinds of powder are made into samples after being dispersed under ultrasonic waves for a long time. The status of single particle is studied by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and SEM.
3. Consolidate these types of powder in the medium to make thin film samples and observe the structure of these powders in TEM.W powder and WC powder SEM picture
The study found:
1. Columnar crystal is one of the typical features of VTO, but there are also more agglomerate particles.
2. Submicron W powder and WC powder may be produced by using VTO as raw material, while its shape of particles is complicated with few single crystal particles.
3. W crystal particles are relatively complete, while there are more crystal defects in WC crystal particles.
