Fine grain size violet tungsten oxide can be used to produce ultrafine tungsten powder (W powder) and ultrafine tungsten carbide powder (WC powder). Ultrafine W powder and WC powder prepared by using fine violet tungsten oxide as raw material have better performance. The phase composition of the violet tungsten oxide has a great influence on the properties of the prepared W powder and WC powder. In addition, the content of NH3 in violet tungsten oxide can also greatly affect the grain size of W powder and WC powder.
Studies have shown that W powder and WC powder become finer as W18O49 content increases. When the content of W18O49 in the two types of tungsten oxide is the same or similar, comparing their grain sizes under different NH3 content to found that the lower the NH3 content, the finer the W powder and WC powder produced.
The violet tungsten oxide used for preparing ultrafine WC powder should meet the following requirements:
1. Appearance requires that the powder be violet and uniform in color.
2. Sieving requirements: over 150 mesh sieve.
3. Electron microscopy checks for no metal wire, hair, and other mechanical debris.
