Cesium tungsten bronze nanopowder is a type of near infrared shielding material that can shield most of the solar radiation. The solar radiation is mainly ultraviolet (in the wavelength range of 200~380nm) and near-infrared radiation (in the wavelength range of 780~2500nnm).
Cesium tungsten bronze (CsxWO3) is a mixture of hexavalent tungsten (W6+) and pentavalent tungsten (W5+). The W5+ makes the CsxWO3 more reducible. In CsxWO3, Cs+ is filled in the void formed by WO3. Therefore, cesium tungsten bronze crystals are oxides of covalent bond rather than metal salts. It is insoluble in water as there is no ionic WO3- in the CsxWO3 crystals. Besides, cesium tungsten bronze is widely used in the field of corrosion-resistant materials as it has special properties of resisting various strong acids other than hydrofluoric acid (HF). This property also contributes to extend the service life of near infrared shielding material as it is often exposed to sunlight.
