What Are the Post-treatment Processes for 3D Printed Tungsten Products

3D printing technology (additive manufacturing) can not only print organic materials such as nylon, plastic, resin, but also stainless steel, aluminum alloy powder, titanium alloy powder, and tungsten alloy powder. As far as tungsten powder is concerned, although additive manufacturing can effectively make up for the shortcomings of powder metallurgy technology, such as the inability to manufacture complex-shaped parts and general product performance, it does not mean that the products manufactured by this method are flawless. Applications in some areas will still be restricted. Therefore, in order to meet the needs of more customers, the 3D printed tungsten products often need to be post-processed. What are the post-treatment processes?

  1. Polishing: It is the most commonly used polishing method. Although the 3D printing technology has high precision, it cannot avoid the pattern of layer-by-layer accumulation, so it needs to be polished with sanding paper or other polishing machines.
  2. Surface sandblasting: The operator holds the nozzle to polish the tungsten product. The machine can process the surface of the model smoothly and fast through high-speed jetting of beads.
  3. Vibration polishing: The principle is to achieve polishing through collision and friction between the model and the medium.
  4. Retouch 3D: Retouch 3D is an electric heating tool. After the tool head is heated to a high temperature, you can touch the position that needs to be polished to achieve the polishing effect.
  5. Adhesion: Demolition and printing requires adhesion. First, apply glue to the parts that need to be bonded, and then bind them with rubber bands, so that the bonded products can avoid gaps or rough contacts.
  6. Coloring: Tungsten parts manufactured by 3D printing technology are generally gray-black, so if you want other colors, you need to color them.
  7. Electroplating: It can make the surface layer of tungsten parts obtain more dings such as oxidation resistance, wear resistance, etc., and at the same time can repair the original defects.
