Yellow Tungsten Oxide Nanowires

Yellow tungsten oxide nanowires, which are also known as tungsten trioxide nanowires or WO3 nanowires, are a unique N-type semiconductor material that exhibit good characteristics in terms of photocatalysis, electrochromism, photochromism, gasochromism, etc. Therefore, WO3 is often used as a photocatalytic material, an electrochromic material, a photochromic material or a gasochromic material, etc., for applications in photocatalytic degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants, hydrogen production from photolysis of water, color-changing devices (smart windows, etc.), photoelectrochemical devices, gas sensors (NO2 gas sensors, etc.), fuel cells and other fields.

The preparation methods of yellow tungsten oxide nanowires mainly include hydrothermal method, sol-gel method, microemulsion method, precipitation method and the like. For example, some researchers adopted hydrothermal method using Na2WO4·2H2O and HCl as raw materials, K2C2O4 and K2SO4 as structure directing agents, respectively, and reacted at 150 °C for 12h to prepare hexagonal tungsten trioxide nanowires.
