A Method to Enhance Photocatalytic Performance of Yellow Tungsten Oxide

The experts proposed a method to enhance photocatalytic performance of yellow tungsten oxide - surface precious metal deposition. Studies have shown that depositing some precious metals such as Ag, Pd, and Pt on the surface of yellow tungsten oxide catalysts can improve their photocatalytic activity.

According to the experts, the proper amount of precious metal deposited on the WO3 film surface can form the focal point of fine metal particles. An electron accumulation center is formed, and the free electrons of the catalyst are optimally attracted, thereby increasing the probability of separation of photo-generated electrons and holes, and improving the photocatalytic performance of yellow tungsten oxide catalyst film. Metal and semiconductor tungsten oxide have different Fermi energy levels. When the two materials are linked together, electrons will continue to migrate from the semiconductor to the precious metal until the energy levels of the two are equal. Precious metal deposition will change the surface properties of semiconductors, thereby changing the catalytic process. Metal deposition can increase the yield of specific products or the speed of specific photocatalytic reactions.
