How about the gamma ray shielding property of PbWO4-natural rubber nanocomposite? Let’s follow the experts’ study to solve this problem. The experts obtained PbWO4 (lead tungstate) particles at the nanometer scale by ball milling, and modified them with KH570, and then blended them with natural rubber to prepare rubber nanocomposites. They also tested the gamma-ray shielding performance of the obtained composite material using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, contact angle, and electronic universal testing machine.

The results show that KH570 has been successfully grafted onto the surface of PbWO4. Compared with unmodified PbWO4, the modified PbWO4 is more uniformly dispersed in natural rubber, the mechanical properties of the composite material are better, and the γ-ray shielding is better. When the filling mass ratio of PbWO4 and natural rubber is 50: 100, the mechanical properties are the best (tensile strength is 30.6 MPa). Compared to the filling mass ratio of 60: 100, the γ-ray shielding rate has only decreased by 1.8%. Therefore, the optimal ratio of PbWO4 to natural rubber is 50: 100.
