WO3 is an electrochromic material, TiO2 also possesses electrochromic properties that have attracted many research and development interests, so electrochromic phenomenon occurs on the TiO2-WO3 composite film. According to the experts, though WO3 exhibits excellent electrochromic properties, the much higher cost and water-sensitivity of WO3 as compared with the TiO2 may restrict the practical application of WO3 materials. In this regard, some experts have prepared nanocrystalline TiO2-WO3 composite films. Wherein, WO3 is amorphous.

The experts also studied the TiO2-WO3 composite films by establishing a model to distinguish between Faraday charges and capacitive charges in electrochemical reactions. And it is proved that capacitive charges do not participate in the electrochromic effect. Faraday charges are closely related to electrochromic behavior. This research work is conducive to a better understanding of the coloring mechanism of WO3, and also provides a new strategy for improving the performance of electrochromic materials.
